The First World War brought silence to the building - up to the twenties, when the masters of the Viennese Operetta came here and composed their best pieces of music in the air of Ischl.
The Second World War devastated Europe. Ischl became a military hospital town, and again it became silent in the building. Twelve years after the end of the war the city started to refurbish the building according to the changed requirements.
On 25 February 1965 a major fire destroyed the building to a large extent. Of the rooms accessible to the public only the theatre hall remained. Immediately the city began with the reconstruction. The external facades and the domed roof truss could be restored with only smallest alterations.
Between 1997 and 1999 the former Kurhaus was renovated with a cost of approximately € 15 millions. The historic external facades remained. The internal area was newly designed in a contemporary and generous style. With the operetta "Paganini" the building was reopened on 11th July 1999 under its new and current name Kongress & TheaterHaus Bad Ischl.
